If you want to improve the appearance of your smile, teeth veneers might be the solution for you. These ultra-thin shells of porcelain or composite resin are designed to cover the front surface of your teeth, transforming your smile in a natural and beautiful way. At VanderLaan Family Dentistry in Byron Center, Michigan, Dr. Matthew VanderLaan helps patients achieve their dream smile with personalized veneers that address various dental concerns. Let’s look at some of the most common questions about teeth veneers.
Yes! One of the main reasons people choose teeth veneers is their ability to correct various dental issues. Whether you’re dealing with discolored teeth, small gaps, chips, or even slightly misaligned teeth, veneers can address these concerns minimally invasively. By covering imperfections, veneers create a flawless smile that enhances your teeth’ appearance and function.
While both veneers and crowns are used to improve the appearance and function of your teeth, they are different in terms of coverage and procedure. Veneers only cover the front part of the tooth, making them a great option for improving aesthetics without altering the tooth’s structure too much. On the other hand, crowns cover the entire tooth, often used when the tooth is significantly damaged or weakened, either from decay or trauma. Veneers are more conservative in comparison, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.
When deciding if veneers are the right option for your smile, consider the following factors:
Teeth veneers are not permanent, but they are highly durable. They can last anywhere from ten to fifteen years or longer with proper care. Over time, wear and tear may cause them to need replacement or repair. However, maintaining regular dental check-ups, avoiding habits like grinding your teeth, and practicing good oral hygiene can significantly extend the lifespan of your veneers.
When applied correctly, veneers have a minimal impact on oral health. They help protect the surface of the teeth and can even improve bite alignment if your teeth were misaligned before. However, veneers don’t alter the structure of your bite the way orthodontic treatments like braces do.Â
