A radiant smile will not only make you look great, but it will also boost your confidence and self-esteem. If your smile has lost its luster over the years, a teeth whitening dentist in Michigan can help restore its health and beauty! Dr. Matthew VanderLaan from VanderLaan Family Dentistry in Byron Center, Michigan, answers your questions about teeth whitening here to help you decide if it’s right for you.
Absolutely! Professional teeth whitening works wonders in restoring the beauty of your smile. Working with a skilled dentist will help you get optimal whitening results. Professional whitening uses high-grade peroxide-based gels to bleach your teeth. These gels penetrate the enamel and dentin of your teeth to break down stain molecules and lighten your smile’s appearance. Dr. VanderLaan will assess your smile to determine how best to achieve the desired results. This enables us to tailor your treatment to meet your specific dental needs.
Our skilled dental team conducts an in-office whitening procedure in our office. Your entire treatment is completed in one dental visit for instant whitening results.
At-home treatments are completed in your home using a custom whitening kit. Dr. VanderLaan will provide detailed instructions on using the gel and whitening trays and monitor your progress to ensure all is going well with your treatment. Home whitening brightens your smile gradually within several weeks.
Under the supervision of your dentist, teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile. Professional whitening treatments produce noticeable results in less time with less risk of harm to your gums or teeth. As some stains are resistant to bleaching gels, Dr. VanderLaan will evaluate your smile to determine if you’re a good candidate for cosmetic whitening treatment.
No, teeth whitening isn’t painful. The bleaching gels can, however, cause mild sensitivity both during and after your treatment. You may also experience “zingers,” sudden, sharp pains that pass quickly. These side effects are temporary and generally wear off within a day or two of your treatment.
Professional teeth whitening produces noticeable results that can endure for some time if you take good care of your teeth. This includes brushing twice daily, flossing daily, getting routine dental cleanings, and watching what you drink and eat. Quitting smoking will also help keep your smile looking whiter and brighter longer. With good oral care and regular touch-ups from your home whitening kit, teeth whitening results can last one to two years.
