VanderLaan Family Dentistry has been a staple of the Byron Center area since at least 2012, when Dr. Matthew VanderLaan acquired a small legacy practice in Cutlerville. When our dental “home” was relocated to its current location at 84th Street and Clyde Park Avenue, Dr. VanderLaan designed it to include all the latest amenities and technologies. But he has continued to preserve the exceptional, relationship-based care that our neighbors from throughout West Michigan deserve.

An East Kentwood High School graduate, Dr. VanderLaan takes great pride in his hometown and is committed to being a good and responsible community steward. After earning his undergraduate and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), Dr. VanderLaan returned home to start his career in public health dentistry – a true testament to his passion for supporting others’ health and wellbeing through dental care. While Dr. VanderLaan leads the practice, he could not provide the exceptional care that patients have come to expect from his office without a stellar team. 

His dedication to ensuring that all individuals have access to quality care, regardless of their previous background with dentistry, financial circumstances, or other barriers to dental services, sets the tone, and he has surrounded himself with equally passionate and authentically caring team members. From our receptionists and treatment coordinators to our dental hygienists and assistants, our staff supports a warm, inviting experience at every interaction and step in the process – regardless of whether you are visiting us for a regular checkup or undergoing extensive rehabilitative dental work. With the relocation of VFD to our current space, Dr. VanderLaan had the exciting opportunity to build the practice from scratch and incorporate only the best that modern dentistry offers regarding office features, technologies, and other capabilities. Such investments span diagnostics (like ultra-low dose radiation CBCT scanning) and therapies (including computer-aided dentistry for same-day crowns). Our in-house savings plan provides a “no ugly surprises” alternative to traditional dental insurance and its array of restrictions – from deductibles and maximums to waiting periods and denials. Our plan is predictable and cost-effective, and for an affordable annual fee, we’ve covered all of your preventative and general dental needs! Discounts are also available for cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedures not covered by the plan.
